East German Stalinallee Provisional Surcharge

Treasure detail

East German Stalinallee Provisional Surcharge

Under Review

Description: This terracotta-orange definitive stamp hails from the German Democratic Republic (DDR). The intricately engraved background image showcases a monumental perspective view of Stalinallee in East Berlin, a grand socialist boulevard lined with classical Soviet-style apartment blocks. A towering statue of Joseph Stalin stands prominently on the left margin. Across the top reads the inscription "BERLIN • STALINALLEE". The stamp's original value of 24 Pfennig in the upper right corner has been aggressively canceled out with a heavy black "X", while a bold, centralized overprint reassesses the stamp at a new face value of 20. The lower margin bears the state title "DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK". This postally used example features heavy, dark cancellation strokes crossing the left frame.
