Treasure detail

East Germany (DDR) The Redrawn Baroque Gate

Under Review

Description: This vertical definitive stamp portrays a detailed line engraving of the Kronentor (Crown Gate) at the Dresden Zwinger complex, printed in a distinct violet-red palette. The top left edge border bears the architectural label "DRESDEN ZWINGER-AUFBAU" while the base is anchored by the state name "DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK". Stamped directly in the top right corner is the original denomination of 40 Pfennig. An official carmine-ink typographical surcharge overprint reading "5" is stamped clearly onto the bottom right corner, re-valuing the piece inside a small ornamental wreath frame. Across the bottom edge runs a bold, curved black line fragment from a circular date stamp (CDS) postal cancellation.

Circa: 1950s-1960s

Condition: Used

Notes:

The "Dresden Zwinger-Aufbau" subtitle directly highlights the massive post-war architectural restoration program initiated by the socialist government to rebuild the landmark baroque palace following its destruction in the 1945 bombing of Dresden.
