Weaver of the Industrial Dawn

Under Review

Description: This vintage definitive postage stamp from the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic features an intricate line engraving of a Přadlena (Textile Worker / Spinner) at her station. Printed in a warm monochromatic sepia-brown ink palette, the composition centers on a young woman wearing a traditional protective hair kerchief and apron as she carefully inspects a thread line. The background is densely layered with rows of vertical bobbins, spindles, and spools fed through a mechanical spinning framework. The state name "ČESKOSLOVENSKO" spans across the upper left header frame, with the large denomination "80h" denoting 80 haléřů positioned directly beneath it. The lower layout margins credit artist Karel Svolinský on the left and master engraver Bedřich Housa on the right. A dark, partial circular postmark cancellation clips the upper-right corner teeth of the perforated paper matrix.

Circa: 1954 - 1958

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This 80-haléřů issue belongs to the celebrated 1954 "Professions" (Pracující lid) definitive set. Karel Svolinský, one of Czechoslovakia's most influential 20th-century graphic designers, purposefully illustrated common everyday laborers rather than political figures to visually match the socialist state's post-war focus on domestic working-class production.
