Czechoslovakian Trenčín Castle Definitive

Under Review

Description: This stamp is a classic definitive postal issue from Czechoslovakia, forming part of the popular and long-running "Hrady a zámky" (Strongholds and Castles) definitive series. Printed in a deep dark grey-violet ink on an off-white paper base, the intricate line engraving captures the dramatic stone ramparts, inner walls, and prominent rectangular defensive tower of Trenčín Castle. The country name "ČESKOSLOVENSKO" is written boldly inside a dedicated dark horizontal banner across the upper border, positioned adjacent to the clear white face value denomination of "5h" (haléřů). Running vertically along the right side frame is the name of the fortified site, "TRENČÍN". Tiny, finely etched designer credits reside along the absolute bottom margin, recognizing painter "ANTON HOLLY" on the left and master engraver "J. A. ŠVENGSBÍR" on the right.

Circa: 1960s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

Trenčín Castle is one of the grandest medieval fortifications in western Slovakia, built upon a steep limestone cliff that has been occupied since the Roman Empire, as evidenced by a famous 179 AD Latin inscription etched into the rock face below.
