Description: This vintage 30 h (30 haléřů) definitive postage stamp was issued by the Czechoslovak Republic as part of a highly celebrated "Castles and Strongholds" series. The vertical monochrome illustration is rendered in a deep forest green ink against a light cream backdrop, capturing a detailed perspective view of the grand, fortified Pernštejn Castle (Hrad Pernštejn) in Moravia. The layout features the castle's complex stone towers and steep-pitched gables rising sharply over a dense lower landscape of regional trees and protective outworks. The country title "ČESKOSLOVENSKO" spans the upper border margin, while the large numeric value "30h" is cleanly offset in the upper left quadrant. The left frame border bears the vertical geographic identifier "PERNŠTEJN". Fine inscriptions along the absolute lower edge credit the original graphic layout design to artist Jaroslav Šváb on the left, and the delicate intaglio engraving to Bedřich Housa on the right.
Circa: 1950
Condition: Used - Hinged
Notes:
Famously known as the "Marble Castle" due to the unique local crystalline limestone used to build its imposing entryways and defensive windows, Pernštejn Castle is celebrated for never being conquered by an invading army. Its strategic design easily withstood a lengthy siege by Swedish forces during the Thirty Years' War in 1645.
