Craftsman of the Machine Age

Under Review

Description: This definitive postage stamp from the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic features a detailed line engraving of a Soustružník (Lathe Operator) at work. Printed in a rich monochromatic charcoal-black ink, the composition captures a focused young industrial worker operating a complex metal lathe inside a factory setting. An overhead articulated lamp casts a bright cone of light directly onto the mechanical components and cutting tools of the machine. The state name "ČESKOSLOVENSKO" spans across the top inner border layout, with the large face value "75h" denoting 75 haléřů nestled in the upper-right corner field. The lower margin layout credits artist Václav Nemeček on the left and master engraver Jan Mráček on the right. A partial, light circular postmark cancellation touches the upper left quadrant of the perforated paper grid.
