Treasure detail

Curaçao Queen Wilhelmina Territory Stamp

Under Review

Description: The definitive adhesive belongs to a scenic territorial series released for the island dependencies of the Dutch West Indies. Prominently labeled for the territory of St. Eustatius along the lower border, the central vignette features Fort Oranje's historic flagpole and defensive cannons flanked by tropical palm trees. An elegant oval frame in the upper right quadrant contains the portrait of Queen Wilhelmina wearing a royal tiara. The denomination is clearly marked in the lower-left corner as a one-and-a-half cent value over a clean white background. This specimen features crisp line engraving, dual-tone green and blue inks, and intact standard perforations along all four edges.

Circa: 1940s

Condition: MH

Notes:
The historical context of this printing makes it highly fascinating to global philatelists because the Netherlands was under German occupation when it was released. To maintain postal operations across free territories, the exiled Dutch government authorized the American Bank Note Company in New York to engrave and produce these issues.
