Wartime Royal Relief

Description: This historic brown-orange stamp from the Caribbean territory of Curaçao features a fine line engraving of Princess Juliana of the Netherlands. The portrait is elegantly framed inside a stylized shield featuring the red, white, and blue colors of the Dutch national flag, accented by a prominent Red Cross symbol in the top left corner. Explicitly designated for air transport via the Dutch word "LUCHTPOST" at the base, it bears a dual denomination of "35 + 50" CENT, where the primary 35-cent face value paid for the postal transit and the additional 50-cent premium went directly to fund the Netherlands Red Cross.

Circa: 1944

Condition: Unused

Notes:

This issue holds immense historical significance because it was produced while the European territory of the Netherlands was under Nazi occupation, meaning the exiled Dutch royal family and territorial administrations had to rely on external resources. To guarantee the highest quality of secure line engraving, the territorial postal service contracted the legendary American Bank Note Company in New York, whose official company imprint is crisply visible along the very bottom margin of the stamp frame.
