Description: This commemorative postage stamp issued by the Republic of the Congo pays tribute to the life and tragic death of Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations. The left side of the vignette features a detailed, profile portrait of Hammarskjöld in a dark suit, positioned directly above the circular emblem of the United Nations. Set against a pale blue backdrop, the right side displays a large silhouette map of the African continent, within which the newly independent borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Belgian Congo) are highlighted with dense shading lines. The top border features the text "RÉPUBLIQUE DU CONGO" over the operational classification "POSTE", flanked by the face value denomination of 20 Centimes (20ᶜ). The bottom margin features the commemorative epitaph "HOMMAGE À DAG HAMMARSKJÖLD † 1961" and explicitly credits the production to the Swiss printing house, Courvoisier S.A.
