Royal Blue Definitive

Under Review

Description: The stamp displays a finely detailed, monochrome engraved portrait of Queen Elizabeth II set against a deep blue background oval. This three-quarter profile likeness is based on an official photograph by Dorothy Wilding, capturing the young monarch wearing the iconic Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The royal cypher "EIIR" sits elegantly in both upper corners of the frame. Symmetrically flanking the bottom are the face value denominations of "5¢," which border the country name "CANADA" spanning horizontally across the base. The lowercase bilingual text "POSTES" and "POSTAGE" is subtly inscribed directly underneath the monetary values.

Circa: 1954-1960s

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

This particular issue holds an important spot in Canadian philatelic history because the 5-cent denomination paid the standard domestic letter rate of the era. This specific stamp shows a standard wavy-line machine slogan cancellation, which was routinely used by major Canadian post offices to process high volumes of daily correspondence rapidly.
