Pastoral Cameroun Definitive

Under Review

Description: This 10-centime definitive postage stamp was issued under French administration and prominently features the "RF" (République Française) monogram alongside "Postes Cameroun". The intricate design features a localized pastoral scene of a Yaoundé herder standing alongside a large humped Zebu (Bos primigenius indicus) amidst tall river reeds. The bottom left margin notes the artist or style provenance, while the bottom right attributes the production to the prolific French engraver and designer Georges Barlangue.

Circa: 1946

Condition: Unused - Hinged

Notes:

The stamp belongs to a highly sought-after post-WWII definitive pictorial series that aimed to celebrate the agricultural traditions, diverse wildlife, and indigenous cultures of France's African territories. Georges Barlangue, the celebrated artist whose signature is etched at the bottom right, masterfully utilized high-contrast cross-hatching to emphasize the physical mass of the Zebu against the delicate texture of the marshland. The definitive nature of this series meant it was heavily circulated, making clean, uncancelled mint examples highly desirable for regional thematic collections focusing on global livestock or French colonial history.
