Description: The 1-cent Bookbinding stamp was issued by Canada Post as part of a series celebrating the heritage of artisanal handiwork across the country. The miniature artwork showcases a worker's hands deftly handling tools to fasten a book spine, beneath an elegant swooping abstract arc that represents fanned paper sheets. Printed in multiple colors using fine offset lithography by Ashton-Potter Ltd., this minimalist layout highlights the human touch central to traditional manufacturing before modern industrial automation took over. The bottom border features the bilingual denomination titles "Reliure / Bookbinding" printed in clean white typography against a dark backdrop.
Circa: 1999
Condition: MNH pair
Notes:
This particular release belongs to the highly popular "Traditional Trades" set, which highlighted other ancestral skills such as leatherworking, glassblowing, and weaving. Philatelists eagerly seek out a highly prized printing error discovered by specialists in 2006, where a minor production run completely missed the gray color layer. This scarce variety leaves the large face value numeral "1" entirely blank white rather than its intended muted silver-gray hue.
These appear to be the white variety, but they will need further research and lighting checks.
