Navy League of Canada Wrenettes Shoulder Title

Under Review

Material: Embroidered cloth shoulder title.

Size: 105 mm × 42 mm.

Description: This artifact is an original, mid-century uniform sleeve identifier representing the Navy League Wrenettes, a specialized girls' division operating under the auspices of the Navy League of Canada. This arc-shaped shoulder title is constructed with bright yellow-gold cotton thread machine-embroidered across two stacked rows, spelling out "NAVY LEAGUE" on the upper tier and "WRENETTES" across the lower tier. The text is densely stitched onto a sturdy, dark black or deep midnight blue twill cloth backing matrix. The perimeter edges feature an overlock-stitched border designed to prevent fraying when sewn onto a standard cadet woolen jersey, dress tunic, or heavy denim training blouse.

Circa: 1950-1975

Notes:

The program traces its unofficial roots back to 1943 at the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Rainbow in Victoria, British Columbia. However, the Navy League officially sanctioned and established the specialized female branch in 1950, modeling their organization, discipline, and terminology directly after the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS), whose personnel were famously nicknamed "Wrens".
