Material: Black wool with gold bullion lace
Size: 55mm w x 130mm h
Description: This vintage military shoulder board from the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) designates the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. The insignia is constructed from a stiffened black wool fabric base measuring 55mm wide by 130mm high, adorned with two parallel rows of wide gold lace braid flanking a narrower central gold stripe. The uppermost stripe loops into a prominent, circular configuration universally recognized as the executive curl, identifying an operational executive branch officer. Fastened at the tapered neck of the epaulette is a matching gilded brass uniform button stamped with an anchor motif underneath an arched "CANADA" text inscription and surmounted by the Tudor Crown, widely designated as the King's Crown. This structural pairing confirms the board's manufacture during the pre-unification era of Canada's armed forces.
Circa: 1910-1953
Notes:
Worn by officers of the Royal Canadian Navy on dress uniforms. The presence of the King’s Crown firmly dates the piece to the pre-1953 period.
