Material: Embroidered cotton thread on navy-blue cloth with red stitched border
Size: 80mm
Description: The circular badge is machine-embroidered onto a heavy, ribbed dark navy blue wool twill backing fabric measuring exactly 80mm in diameter, completed by a tight, protective red overlocked merrowed border. The central composition features a golden-yellow fouled anchor fouled with a thick rope strand, enclosed inside a matching golden circular frame and flanked by the bold red embroidered branch initials "N" on the left and "L" on the right. Directly surmounting the inner medallion is a detailed Naval Crown, showcasing gold and white sails interlinked with stylized gemstones along the headband. The lower perimeter is boldly anchored by the white-embroidered arched title text "NAVY LEAGUE WRENETTES" in a crisp, sans-serif block font.
Circa: 1950-1980
Notes:
This patch was worn by members of the Navy League of Canada's Wrenettes program, a youth division for girls inspired by naval training and service culture. The crowned anchor places it firmly within maritime tradition, while the design reflects mid-20th-century Canadian youth uniform insignia.
The Navy League Wrenettes were established in 1950 by the Navy League of Canada as a parallel female youth training program to the male-only Sea Cadets, taking their name from the famous wartime Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS or "Wrens").
