Canadian Forces Cloth Shoulder Flash Uncut Pair

Under Review

 Material: Cloth

Size: 95mm W x 105mm H

Description: This military artifact is an unsevered vertical pair of cloth shoulder titles issued for the Canadian Armed Forces. The utilitarian design features the country name "CANADA" embroidered in a bold, gently arched sans-serif block font using dense, royal-blue polyester thread. This lettering is stitched directly onto a heavy, off-white cotton twill canvas backing fabric characterized by prominent diagonal weave lines. A visible blue horizontal factory stitching line divides the top and bottom titles exactly in half, providing an unsevered guide designed to be cut apart by quartermasters before uniform application. The edges are raw and untrimmed, showing loose structural threads along both the top and bottom perimeters.

Circa: Early to mid 20th century

Notes:

The blue on white "CANADA" patch is a classic Canadian Forces (and formerly Canadian Army/Navy) nationality insignia. It was historically worn by military personnel on both shoulders to identify their country of service.

During the Second World War and beyond, Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ratings wore a curved "CANADA" shoulder flash with white letters on a dark blue background for their standard uniforms. However, the exact reverse, blue lettering on a white background, was officially prescribed for sailors wearing their summer "whites".
