Manitoba Centennial Commemorative Nickel Dollar

Under Review

Material: Nickel (100%)
Diameter: 32.13 mm
Weight: 15.62 g
Mint / Mintmark: Royal Canadian Mint – Ottawa (no mintmark)
Obverse: The obverse side features the classic right-facing profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Arnold Machin. Struck in pure nickel with a reeded edge, the coin features a standard circulating thickness of 2.62mm and uniquely captures the light across its industrial metal fields.
Reverse: The reverse design features a highly detailed cluster of prairie crocuses, the official floral emblem of the province, rendered in full bloom with fine texture across the petals and stems. Arcing along the upper rim is the inscription "MANITOBA 1870 • 1970", flanked by small stylized maple leaves, while the lower rim displays the text "CANADA DOLLAR".
Circa: 1970
Condition: Very Fine – light circulation wear, good detail on crocus petals, rim sharp.
Notes:

This pure nickel issue features a total mintage of just over four million coins, making it an incredibly common yet deeply beloved staple of Canadian numismatic history. The artwork on the reverse was designed by Raymond Taylor, who won a national competition run by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1969 to commemorate Manitoba's status as the first province to join Confederation after the initial 1867 founding.
