Princess Louise Fusiliers Cap Badge

Under Review

Material: Bi-metal (gilt brass with white-metal centre)
Size: 27 mm W × 42 mm H
Description: The item shown is a striking multi-piece, bi-metal military cap badge issued for the Canadian Army's Princess Louise Fusiliers. The top of the insignia is shaped like a classic flaming grenade, a design traditional to fusilier units, stamped from gilded brass with an expansive, detailed explosion of flames. Positioned immediately beneath the plume is a circular white-metal ring cleanly embossed with the regiment's name, "PRINCESS LOUISE FUSILIERS". The center of this ring features an applied silver coronet modeled precisely after the personal heraldic crown of Princess Louise, the fourth daughter of Queen Elizabeth II's great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.
Reverse: Horizontal dual lug brass pin fitting; maker-marked W. SCULLY LTD MONTREAL
Circa: Early to mid 20th Century
Notes:

The Princess Louise Fusiliers were established in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1869. This badge design follows the traditional Fusilier grenade pattern, similar to those of the Royal Fusiliers and Royal Scots Fusiliers, adapted for Canadian use. W. Scully Ltd. produced high-quality badges for Canadian and Commonwealth regiments throughout the early to mid-20th century.

During the Second World War, the regiment mobilized active-service components that saw extensive action in Europe. They served notably as a Machine Gun unit assigned to support the 5th Canadian Armoured Division during the grueling Italian Campaign (including the Liri Valley and the breaking of the Gothic Line) before transferring to Northwest Europe in early 1945 for the Liberation of the Netherlands.
