Material: Brass
Size: 19mm
Description: This military artifact is an authentic, mid-century Canadian youth uniform button designated for the Seaforth Cadets of Vancouver, the specialized youth organization affiliated with the historic Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. The circular-convex button is die-stamped from solid gilding brass. The finely detailed face showcases the traditional regimental insignia of a stag's head facing forward, with a stylized rope-tied anchor nestled between its sweeping antlers. The central motif is bordered along the perimeter by the crisply raised block lettering "SEAFORTH CADETS" wrapping around the upper curve and "VANCOUVER" anchoring the lower half. The reverse side features the distinct industrial stamping of the specialized local manufacturer, Pressed Metal Products Ltd. Vancouver, complete with a rigid integrated copper wire eyelet loop back designed for split-pin attachment to a heavy wool double-breasted service tunic.
Circa: 1930-1960
Notes:
The Seaforth Cadets of Vancouver hold a revered spot in Canadian military heritage, having been formed around 1912 with early groups of these young lads famously enlisting together directly into the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish) at the outbreak of the First World War. Measuring nineteen millimeters in diameter, this specimen represents the small-format sizing standard reserved specifically for uniform pocket flaps, shoulder epaulets, or sleeve cuffs. Turning the item over reveals a crisp, localized backmark for Pressed Metal Products Ltd. of Vancouver, an iconic West Coast industrial manufacturer that operated out of its historic Alexander Street workshop for nearly a century.
