Royal Canadian Mounted Police Button

Under Review

Material: Gilt brass, two-piece construction with fixed shank
Size: 20mm
Description: This uniform button from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) displays a highly detailed, die-struck face with exceptional high-relief definition. The central design is anchored by a front-facing bison head nestled inside a circular garter band that is embossed with the force's traditional French motto, "MAINTIENS LE DROIT" ("Maintain the Right"). The centerpiece is beautifully flanked by dense clusters of Canadian maple leaves and surmounted by the classic Tudor-style King's Crown (KC) at the top center. Curving elegantly along the lower rim is a raised title ribbon that cleanly states "ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE" in small block lettering. The button is struck from durable brass with a bright gilt gold plating and framed by a protective, clean outer edge ring.
Circa: 1920-1952
Notes:

The reverse side carries a sturdy fixed attachment shank and features a highly prized, full-length historical contractor backmark that reads "J.R. GAUNT & SON LTD MONTREAL MADE IN ENGLAND". While the legendary J.R. Gaunt firm pressed the physical metal buttons at their core factories in England, they maintained a dedicated branch office in Montreal, Quebec, to directly manage and execute lucrative security, defense, and federal police contracts across Canada during the early-to-mid twentieth century.
