Material: Gilt brass
Diameter: 25 mm
Description: The uniform accessory is an authentic brass tunic button issued to personnel serving across the military branches of Canada. The upper margin is boldly embossed with the country name in capitalized block lettering, sitting directly above a highly detailed Tudor style King's Crown. The central circular garter motif contains the historic Anglo-Norman French motto of the Order of the Garter, which translates to shamed be he who thinks evil of it. This circular frame perfectly encloses a sharply defined multi-pointed Canadian maple leaf. The reverse side features a fixed wire loop shank alongside a stamped manufacturer hallmark reading JR Gaunt & Son, London.
Circa: 1902–1952
Notes:
The physical diameter of 25 millimeters marks this specimen as a standard large-size front closure tunic button, heavily manufactured throughout the reigns of King Edward VII, King George V, and King George VI. J.R. Gaunt & Son was one of the premier British insignia manufacturers contracted to supply high-quality hardware to Canadian troops during both the First and Second World Wars.
