Description: The circular, multi-piece military uniform button displays a highly complex composite design set within a bright, polished white-metal outer rim. The raised border frame is embossed with the capitalized sans-serif unit title text "CANADIAN CORPS OF COMMISSIONAIRES". Nestled inside the central gold-toned brass medallion field is a silver-plated relief emblem featuring a highly detailed Canadian maple leaf. Intricately superimposed over the face of the leaf is a pair of classic crossed swords, symbolizing protective duty and service. This large tunic-pattern button features a solid reverse back stamped with the famous historical maker's mark "Gaunt London".
Circa: 1950s–1960s
Notes:
This artifact holds a proud position in Canadian heritage, tracing its origins to the founding of Commissionaires Canada in 1925 to provide dignified, meaningful employment to ex-servicemen returning home from the First World War. While the organization originally began with independent regional offices in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, it fully unified into a comprehensive national council in 1950, which prompted the widespread distribution of these high-quality unified tunic buttons.
