Calgary Highlanders Button

Under Review

Material: Gilt brass

Size: 25 mm

Description: This vintage military uniform button features the distinct heraldic insignia of The Calgary Highlanders, an elite infantry unit of the Canadian Army Primary Reserve. The polished brass surface is dominated by a large St. Andrew's cross (saltire) displaying a finely pebbled inner texture meant to echo the regiment's Scottish heritage. Struck directly over the center of the cross is a detailed profile of a Canadian beaver crouching upon a small log. The reverse is fitted with a fixed metal loop shank for secure fastening to a ceremonial doublet or greatcoat. Marked J.R. GAUNT & SON Ltd, LONDON.
Circa: 1921-1968
Notes:

The Calgary Highlanders were officially reorganized in 1921 and granted the proud lineage of the 10th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), which had achieved legendary status during World War I at the Battle of Kitcheners' Wood. To permanently honor this heritage, the regiment integrated the 10th Battalion's iconic "Beaver over X" motif directly into their peacetime uniform buttons and collar insignia. The reverse side features the highly collectible backmark of J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. London, the prestigious British militaria firm contracted to produce high-quality stamped brass hardware for Commonwealth forces before the widespread adoption of anodized plastics.
