Material: Gilt brass
Size: 25 mm
Description: This vintage military uniform button features the distinct heraldic insignia of The Calgary Highlanders, an elite infantry unit of the Canadian Army Primary Reserve. The polished brass surface is dominated by a large St. Andrew's cross (saltire) displaying a finely pebbled inner texture meant to echo the regiment's Scottish heritage. Struck directly over the center of the cross is a detailed profile of a Canadian beaver crouching upon a small log. The convex brass dome shows a deep golden luster with light surface scuffing from genuine period use. The reverse is fitted with a fixed metal loop shank for secure fastening to a ceremonial doublet or greatcoat.
Circa: 1921-1968
Notes: Issued to members of the Calgary Highlanders, a Canadian infantry regiment of the Canadian Army formed in 1921 and active during WWII as part of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. This style was standard on battledress tunics and greatcoats.
