Royal Canadian Air Cadets Brass Uniform Button

Under Review

Material: Brass

Diameter: 25mm

Description: The circular, domed button features a polished brass surface stamped with a detailed, relief-engraved emblem. Arcing across the upper crest are the words "AIR CADETS" in a bold, capitalized sans-serif font. The lower base mirrors this style with the country name "CANADA". Positioned prominently at the center is a stylized eagle in mid-flight with fully outstretched wings, symbolizing aviation and flight. A classic Canadian maple leaf sits directly above the eagle's back, bridging the national identity with the winged motif. Measuring 25mm in diameter, this large-pattern tunic button is fitted with a standard metal attachment loop on the reverse side.

Reverse: 2 piece construction; marked UNIVERSAL WALKERVILLE

Circa: 1941-1968

Notes:

This uniform button captures a critical era in Canadian military heritage, dating back to the formation of the Air Cadet League of Canada in April 1941 during the height of the Second World War. The organization was originally created to train teenage boys in aviation skills to build a reliable pool of future personnel for the Royal Canadian Air Force. This 25mm version was specifically designed for the front closure of the heavy wool service dress tunics worn by both officers and cadets. The reverse side features the rare stamped manufacturer's mark of "Universal Button Co., Walkerville, Ont.", a highly notable Canadian fastener factory that operated out of Windsor, Ontario, before eventually closing its local operations. Collectors of Canadian militaria highly value these early brass variants over post-1968 anodized versions because the natural aging and beautiful golden-brown patina on the raw brass verify decades of authentic service.
