Material: Embroidered cloth.
Size: 76 mm × 62 mm.
Description: This artifact is an original Canadian Army trade qualification sleeve patch. Hand-cut or machine-tailored on a thick wool-felt substrate, the insignia features two stylized, bolt-action service rifles meticulously crossed in an "X" configuration. The weapons are expertly filled with dense, vibrant golden-yellow thread embroidery, which is set tightly against a dark black or deep navy wool melton cloth backing plate displaying characteristic micro-fibers along its raw, un-rimmed border edges.
Notes:
Prior to the 1968 unification of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian Army utilized a comprehensive system of worsted wool sleeve badges to denote an individual soldier's specific trade qualifications, technical skills, and marksmanship achievements. This specific crossed-rifles motif was issued to qualified infantrymen who successfully demonstrated advanced mastery of their standard-issue service firearms (such as the Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifle or the subsequent C1A1 FN FAL rifle). It was worn sewn flush onto the upper sleeve of the traditional wool battle dress or formal service dress uniforms.
