Canadian Army Musician Trade Badge

Under Review

Material: Embroidered cloth trade badge.

Size: 72 mm × 83 mm.

Description: This vertically oriented, arched uniform sleeve patch is constructed from a heavy black or deep navy blue wool felt backing fabric. The obverse face displays dense, high-relief machine embroidery executed entirely in an off-white or silver-grey cotton thread. The central design motif features a highly detailed classical lyre, showcasing five vertical strings flanked by ornate, symmetrical scrolling side arms resting atop a structured pedestal base. Positioned directly above the lyre instrument is a prominent, stylized eleven-pointed Canadian maple leaf, serving as the official national symbol of state authority. The backing material is cleanly sheared into a traditional tombstone or rounded-shield profile designed to fit flush against a uniform sleeve. This unissued or carefully preserved specimen retains its crisp structural weave, presenting clean fabric edges completely free of fraying or field wear.

Circa: Mid 20th Century

Notes:

The lyre is the traditional emblem of military musicians and bandsmen, while the maple leaf gives the badge its Canadian identity. This example would have served as a sleeve-worn trade badge for qualified musicians in Canadian Army service.
