Voice of the Constitutional Charter

Under Review

Description: This vintage definitive postage stamp from Brazil (BRASIL) belongs to the iconic, long-running mid-century "Portraits" series honoring major figures in national history. The central vignette displays a finely engraved, front-facing bust portrait of Rui Barbosa, rendered entirely in a rich magenta-violet ink against a detailed cross-hatched background. He is shown with his signature prominent mustache, wire glasses, and formal high-collared attire. The country name "BRASIL" is nested within a banner across the top frame, flanked by two small five-pointed stars. The left vertical border reads "CORREIO" (Post), while the right vertical border displays the face value Cr$ 5,00 (5 Brazilian Cruzeiros). His full name, "RUI BARBOSA", anchors the lower frame. This specific example features a heavy black postmark cancellation sweeping across the left side of his face, alongside rough, fuzzy line-perforated margins.

Circa: 1956-1960s

Condition: Used - hinged

Notes:

This 5-Cruzeiro issue honors one of Brazil's greatest historic jurists, diplomats, and writers, affectionately nicknamed "The Eagle of The Hague" for his brilliant defense of sovereign state equality at the 1907 International Peace Conference.
