Treasure detail

Belgian Leo Belgicus Definitive

Under Review

Description: This monochromatic definitive stamp from Belgium is executed in a rich, uniform brown ink on a warm cream-colored paper. The intricate design features a highly stylized, rampant Belgian lion (Leo Belgicus), a historic medieval symbol derived directly from regional heraldry and the national coat of arms. The roaring lion is superimposed by an oversized, prominent numeral "2" accented with a lower-case "c", signifying a face value of two centimes. The entire central vignette is set against a finely engraved, repeating grid or crosshatched background pattern. Along the curved bottom banner, the dual names of the country are displayed as "BELGIQUE BELGIE" to cleanly acknowledge both the French and Dutch linguistic communities of the nation. The physical specimen is enclosed within a double-lined rectangular border and displays pristine, standard comb perforations with no indications of postal usage.
