Golden Blooms of the Southern Bush

Description: This beautiful vintage definitive postage stamp from the Commonwealth of AUSTRALIA belongs to a celebrated multi-value botanical series highlighting the unique flora of the continent. The central design features a detailed, fine-line engraving of a blossoming Wattle branch, showcasing dense clusters of small, round flower heads offset by heavy, curved foliage. Printed in a rich forest-green ink directly onto a tinted pale-yellow or cream-colored paper stock, the layout feels strikingly clean and elegant. The identifier "WATTLE" is cleanly typed in a small sans-serif font along the upper right border line. The unique denomination of 2/3 (2 shillings and 3 pence) sits boldly in the lower left corner, directly above the heavy, capitalized country title "AUSTRALIA" anchoring the bottom margin. This specific specimen showcases clear evidence of regular postal usage, bearing a classic, dark black "roller" cancellation consisting of parallel horizontal lines running cleanly across the center.

Circa: 1959-1966

Condition: Used - Hinged

Notes:

The botanical illustration on the face is a historic piece of art, meticulously drawn by Margaret Stones, who was one of the premier global botanical artists of the 20th century and famously worked with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
